The Journey Behind TRXM
In 2008, Nicholas Llewellyn, an avid outdoors enthusiast, embarked on a journey that would intertwine his love for nature with his technological prowess. After swiftly completing the National Navigation Award Scheme (NNAS), Nicholas delved into his Mountain Leader qualification. This decision was fueled by his realization of the potential legal risks associated with leading outdoor groups without proper insurance.
While Nicholas's heart was in the mountains, his professional life was deeply rooted in technology. Stationed at Cardiff, South Wales, he served as the Head of IT for a prominent company with over 150 employees and 15 offices scattered across the UK and Eire. His role was pivotal, ensuring the seamless functioning of IT across all these locations.
Over a span of five years, Nicholas accumulated more than 100 Quality Mountain Days, a feat that was five times the minimum required for the Mountain Leader Assessment. However, a shift to Surrey for a more intricate IT role in the Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices sector led him to a global FTSE 250 company. Despite the professional advancements, the mountains called out to him.
Nicholas's longing for the mountains saw him volunteering with local junior schools, assisting with their residential activity center trips. He re-immersed himself in the world of outdoor adventures, from local walks to indoor climbing. By 2013, Nicholas had not only qualified as a Mountain Leader but also joined the voluntary organization, Surrey Search and Rescue. His passion didn't stop there. He embraced part-time work at a new High Ropes activity center, qualifying as a European Ropes Course Instructor. But what truly resonated with him was introducing students from across the country to the Duke Of Edinburgh Award.
It was during these outdoor escapades that Nicholas spotted a unique opportunity. He envisioned leveraging low-cost technology to address a pressing need in the outdoor industry. And thus, TRXM was conceived.
